According to Alexa anyway. Irishblogs.ie is 92nd. Blacknight.ie is 91st. Boards.ie is 16th. I doubt this is full accurate.

Who are those masked men/bloggers of UCC?
Thursday, April 27th, 2006One bloody woman! C’mon people! I didn’t know there were that many UCC Bloggers until I read more on Cian’s blog. Cian likes traffic to his site so g’wan over and say hello.
So on to the UCC bloggers, well firstly there’s Cian who’s been writing some good stuff lately and he points to two more UCC bloggers that I did not know of:
Eoin Winning and Jason Kelleher. Jason especially has a lot to say on politics and other such stuff.
One issue I have with all three of these blogs is that the black background and white text hurts my eyes after a minute or two and I have to switch tab. Not sure is it just my eyes or something but black background and white text wreck my eyes. Might just have to fire those sites into my aggregator instead.
Additionally there’s James Galvin and of course there’s Steven. Gavin’s in UCC too and Fiona is doing her PhD there. Shame she took her blog down though. There’s Karole and Bob Heffernan. One of the In, Fact Ah folks and also Stephen Spillane. Then there’s me as well. Who else is there? I won’t accept mySpace or bebo walled garden sites as blogs though.
If you’re a UCC blogger, leave a comment and I’ll add your name to the list.
So the list is:
Cian
Karole Cuddihy
Steven Day
El Commandant P
Fiona De Londras
James Galvin
Bob Heffernan
Karol
Jason Kelleher
Damien Mulley
Donal O’Caoimh
Gavin Sheridan
Stephen Spillane
Eoin Winning

Using the more honest and personal web for charity
Thursday, April 27th, 2006Kids raising 500k for charity. This kind of money raising for African countries is probably new to Americans but there’s some weekly or monthly event here with kids doing something for charity. Good use of new tools to help people though.

Thursday, April 27th, 2006I bet you don’t know who Jane Jacobs was
Wednesday, April 26th, 2006Steven Berlin Johnson writes about Jane Jacobs who died very recently. Jane wrote the book The Death and Life of Great American Cities which Steven referenced a good bit in his fantastic book Emergence.
Jane’s book is on my to-buy and to-read list and once I get everything else out of the way I plan on reading this. The New York Times also covers her life here. Her book is one of those books that will probably open up your mind. Cory Doctorow in remembering her work said:
Reading that book rendered visible whole rafts of secrets about how the world around me functioned. It was like taking off a blindfold.
Free wine, free books and now free art for bloggers?
Wednesday, April 26th, 2006Liam Daly mentioned on his blog before an offer of a free book to bloggers. 250 were to be given away. Perhaps Liam would tell us how that offer went? Good feedback?
It seems Liam was thinking of upping the ante himself and he is considering giving away Irish Paintings. Hugh Macleod, what have you done!
There’s quite a few of Liam’s paintings I’d love to have in my place or give as paintings but at $500 a pop they’re not the cheapest of presents though I think they’re worth it. I like art and especially the art of someone who’s “real” in a sense. Someone I know to exist outside of the signature. One person I went out with before gave me a beautiful painting as a present and though we’ve lost contact I still have that painting and still love it a lot. Course when he becomes a famous artist I’ll sell it on for the highest price. 🙂 Capitalism beats sentimentality! Anyway, back to Liam’s idea. Paintings. Probably the hardest part is logistics for paintings. Getting them delivered. I wouldn’t mind prints though or if Liam licenced his art to be used in website templates/wordpress templates, naturally with a link back to his website. Win win for both parties?
Update: Liam gives us an update on this.
