Jan 2007. Since I wrote the below post I’ve used Insure.ie since and they gave me an insurance quote that was 30% cheaper than my own insurance provider and for fully comprehensive and not just 3rd party. Phone service this time was more than good, it was excellent. Recommended now!

I’m shopping around for a new insurance policy for my car so I ring up Insure.ie who are part of Mike Murphy Insurance and choose the new customer option. I get through to some guy who’s name I don’t really care to know and I tell him my renewal for insurance is due but I want to shop around and get a good deal. He tells me I am on the wrong option and without asking switches me to “Existing customer, renewals”. Grrr. I explain to the next woman, who I mistakenly called Helen, though I don’t really care, that I am looking for insurance for my car and want some prices. “Oh that’ll be the new business line”. I get moved back to the first line. I give some details and I am told I am on the wrong line and she’ll switch me. This girl is painfully fucking stupid. She doesn’t press the transfer button and instead just types the extension number into the phone so I go “eh sorry” BEEP “I think you” BEEP BEEP “need to first” CLICK. Call ends.
Insure.ie will not be getting my business. Well done them.
Update: The people from Quinn Direct on the otherhand were really good and professional except they seemed to think I was a diabetic. I wasn’t that happy that they had a file on me especially with the wrong information.
Update again: Well the complaints department for Insure.ie is proactive at least. Some nice chap (I really am shit for names) rang me to sort this issue out and offer a quote. Too late though, plenty of choice in the insurance market. The girls name wasn’t Helen either so I’ve edited this post to reflect that.
*later update
I must say I am impressed with the attitude from Insure.ie. Not sure how they found out about my blog post but they took the time to ring me and figure out what went wrong and then offered to carry out what I was looking for. Generally when I get calls about my blog posts I am usually threatened with legal action. (Thus why I list my solicitor’s details on my blog.)
It’d be great if every person who had an issue with a company got treated like this. The only better treatment is to get good service first time every time. I’ve reworded the post title from “Insure.ie – fucking useless” to “Insure.ie – Useless?” I’ve been so impressed.
mm maybe we should start a dedicated blog to “customerservice” and gather all the stories, good and bad, so there might actually be some action
What did go wrong?
I like Annette’s idea. I was thinking of starting one dedicated exclusively to CIE and their ‘customer service’ but I’m just too busy
I’m not technically literate enough to pull off organising the kind of blog that would be required but I increasingly think that a centralised portal for customer service issues would be a good idea. I think it’s fantastic that Damien got this result but let’s face it, the popularity of your blog and its readership was a main component in that (and I’m not complaining about it!) wouldn’t it be great ot have a customer service blog listed on every Irish blogger’s blogroll and working a bit like the Irish election blog…that way even the newest blogs or those with small readership could capitalise on being in the same arena as the more widely read bloggers and that way we could all share the cost of the solicitors lol!
That’s a very good idea Annette. A good name and a simple setup is all that’s needed. The public can supply the content in massive amounts. All that would be needed are good moderators.
I love this idea, it’s absolutely brilliant. Customer service in this country will never change unless people have a forum to discuss issues and highlight inadequacies. Power to the bloggers Damien, I’m glad you got such a quick and positive reaction.
As far as the insurance goes, for any young male drivers nobody can come close to Quinn Direct in price. I’ve heard moaning about them but never had any problems myself. I’ve also heard they’ve changed a lot (for the better) in the last 2 years with regard to paying out claims.
Hibernian won’t even quote me for a policy in my own name because I have my full licence for less than 3 years!!
Not as important as insurance, but I’ve been trying to get NTL since early november. Got a nice guy the first time saying I’ll get a visit from a tech the following week on tuesday. Stayed home, nobody showed up. Called them back at least 7 times, each time being told they had to do an address check or something and that they’d call me back the next day (or week if I called on fridays). Nothing happened.
At some point I got a more honest lad saying that they were overwhelmed (around 10th of Dec) and that it will probably have to wait til next year. At least, he didn’t lie.
I had a crapload of bad experience with cust service (I’m french), but in the end I’m just pissed off (if only cause I had to wait at least 15 minutes each time I called). There’s nothing wrong in saying that due to the christmas period demand and some juicy offer, they just can’t keep up and that I’ll have to wait.
[…] Definitely I agree and like the idea of the negative and the positive being highlighted. McDonald’s seems to be getting great press recently via Piaras and Conor and even Insure.ie are getting some positive remarks from an initial negative me. I’ve also since heard two more positive stories about Insure.ie addressing issues people had with them after people read my post. […]

I went to insure.ie for a quote in Mar and they gave me an attractive price I called gave details of card to confirm down payment and looked forward to a summer of buzzing around in The Green Dragon, my pet name for my car, any way I never recieved my Insurance Disc and tried to contact them, 3 person later and over a month I managed to get a teamleader (I’d hate to see the team if this was a leader) anyway I was then told I han’t filled out a mandate form, I explained to the girl I han’t recieved any such Item and could they send it to me I filled this out and a week later I checked my post box, to my joy the details from Insure.ie where there. I ran out to the Car in a blind hurry and stuck the disc in to my new play thing. I bombed up and down, down and up down and across over and back. I must have given 500 people lifts I was pulling up to the bus stop and waiting for people to arrive before I’d covince them to get in the car with me. And then it all went wrong, 2 days after and I’ll repeat that 2 days after I got the disc I got a letter from Hibernian saying, get this I owed them 3 direct debts back till March 5th. Imagine the amount of lifts I could have given if I had been driving since back then, millions a bizzillon but wait how can I drive with no Insurance Disk, now I’m no Columbo but its against the Law to drive with out displaying your insurance disk isn’t it.
I contact Insure.ie and they said this is correct and we’re affraid you do owe back payments, to which I replied well pls canx my Policy. And since Monday I have not been able to wait at a single bus stop because Insure.ie don’t really know how to Insure people. And are still looking for money to booth. Lifes a bitch and then you buy a car, and the man fucks you in a hole you didn’t even know you had
did http://www.insure.ie solve your problem like they did with Damien or did you move elsewhere??

I would like to come back to my comment made back in the so called summer, Insure.ie came back and sorted it all out for me. I would like to recommened them as an excellent company to deal with and very human when looking for information and advice.
Its a bit a few other companys like SKY would take the same view on Peoples frustrations.

How highly suspicious. Two new comments about Insure.ie within 3 minutes of each other on a very old blog post. Barry and Jonathan, did you agree to both post on here today or was it the biggest coincidence ever?
No damien it is no coincidence as I did contact Barry this morning after seeing his comments this morning – not to ask him to post a reply on the website but to see if his problems had been dealt with. Barry told me that the issues were sorted and he had put a reply on the site. If I find any comments about insure from customers i will always try to contact them Never to ask for the comment to be deleted, amended, removed, replied to, but only to see if I can resolve the issues they have. We are considering putting something like this on our site if we do it will be totally independent and negative comments will be treated as something we need to sort out internally and the comments will not be interfered with. Transparinsy and honesty Damien
Hi Damien
You are on the ball, I ment to put up a comment a few months back and never got round to it. And the fact that Insure.ie gave me 100yoyo to write it, helped (Yea Right). I have since been on to insure.ie in recent months to get quotes for cars other insurance companies would turn their
mask covered noses up to. And they have always come back with decent quotes.
I’m on Insure.ie’s side on this. In fact I might apply for a Job there (Not),
Barry
Hey guys, hasnt been a post in a yr and a half so after reading your comments decided to give my view on it.
Got my car 2 weeks ago (its been parked in the garden since as i just got my license today), shopped around for insurance and as i’m a first time driver things weren’t looking too pretty. Eventually came to Insure.ie and was quoted 1780Euro, 525euro up front through credit card and the 6 monthly installments of 219euro per month. Thought that was a great offer so went ahead with it (through AXA). Less than an hour later i got a phone call (from Fiona) of Insure.ie, and guess what, they got me a better deal, will only cost me 1200 – 1250 in the long run which means ill be paying just over a 100euro a month! Posted the forms nearly straight away.
All i have to do now is wait for the postman for the disc 🙂
The companys been excellent in replying to my questions and calling to inform me of better offers, i would highly recommend them! But we’ll just have to wait and see when the discs and info arrive, i might be editing this comment, but fingers crossed that wont be the case!!

Hi Gary, again i ask how did you get with your dealings with insure.ie? did they issue the certificate?
Hey Seamus,
Meant to come back here and leave my reply, was just busy with work and stuff..
I’m VERY pleased with insure.ie buddy, i got a qoute fom AXA through them for 1750euro, which i chose cos it was the cheapest i could get, then insure.ie rang me back to say they found me a better deal through Asguard for 1250euro which they put through for me, was delighted!! Received my disc before i even sent off the forms as they received the AXA forms and took my details from that. Got a new Asguard form aswell which i sent off immediately. They rang me 2 days later to see if i was happy with their custom too and just to make sure i was satisfied with everything.
Happy days 🙂
thanks for reply, just wanted to see what the customer service was like, not always the cheapest price is the way to judge an insurance broker but that definitely helps!!! my wife is with them and has got on fine, i haven’t switched yet but will give them a fair shot in August.
Yeah i know what ya mean, peoples eyes light up when they see cheap prices but ive asked around about asguard and have got alot of positive feedback.. Hope you get a good deal aswell 🙂
You must be dealing with a different insure.ie
I am very unhappy with how they operate.
