Simpsons Movie
Review of Simpsons Movie
Massively disappointing movie of the long past sell-by date TV cartoon.
While it was a much hyped and over-hyped movie, this was more like an extended episode, or that’s what most people told me. What they failed to mention was that it was an extended episode of the caliber from the past 5 years which means it was awful.
It’s a shame that it took so long to get this onto the big screen as every gag and anything clever has already been done.
This movie was boring, meandering and pointless. If it did not come from the TV series it would not be memorable at all. The past greatness of the show is the only redeeming factor for this movie. Forget the sequel, kill the damned thing off NOW.

Your review differs from rottentomatoes. You must be wrong.
I didn’t think it was a bad film but it was definitely disappointing. Very poor use of established secondary characters as well.
I laughed my arse off they whole way through. Maybe you were expecting a little too much?

I totally agree with Damien Mulley’s comment! The Simpsons Movie was very dissapointing and a waste of time! the only people laughing in the cinema were the little 5 year old kids! totally crap! x
It wasn’t totally crap. It was sporadically entertaining.
People just expected too much because of the series (which is dumb, because as Damien points out the last few years were shite). With such emotional attachment/investment and high expection, no movie could have truly satisfied most Simpsons fans. Myself included.
Want to see a truly awful film, then check out Michael Bay’s Transformers – A Michael Bay Film… As I said in my review on my blog: “the cinematic equivalent of being raped by a bus.” Tremendously cack.
I agree Damien, The Simpsons Movie was severely lacking.
It was spoiled by the fact that the few funny bits have been playing continuously on the TV in the form of trailers.
I think what ruined it for me was the audience. The hype told them the movie was brilliant, they’re expectations of the Simpsons meant that it was supposed to be funny and they were damn sure to get their laughs whether it was funny or not.
With that in mind you had the situation that as soon as people saw the trailer bits on the screen they started to laugh (because this was a bit they knew to be funny cause they had seen it already) which meant you couldn’t hear the rest of the joke. I personally wanted to know what the rest of the SpiderPig song was…..
Oh and then of course there was the buffoon sitting behind me who waited for everyone else to start laughing before he would start and then had to laugh louder than everyone else, I was afraid to turn around in case he was pointing at the screen…..
Do people still watch the Simpsons? The last good episodes were 7 or 8 seasons ago at this stage. It just depresses me whenever I see some of the new episodes that such a good show could let itself go so badly.
It could have been such a great idea. I don’t think anybodies arguing that the show has taken a dramatic decline in the last few years. If they decided to end it all with a movie, using the original writing team from the mid-90’s, then this could have been a classic. Instead its just a slight improvement on recent standards and another sign, as if we needed one, that this show has gone on waaaay too long.
Southpark got it right. They did the movie at the peak of their powers and took the grossness, not to mention the music, to a whole new level. It proved they were capable of making a full length feature film, not an extended episode, and it validated the TV show for years to come (latest series is, at times, excellent).
Matt Groening, hang your head in shame.
(too much?)
It’s a movie guys.
its cartoon!
who cares!
I just got done watching the movie and I have to say it was super boring and pointless. I was expecting something a bit more biting, a bit more outrageous than the series………….Instead, I found myself fighting to keep my eyes open, it bored me that much.
What a waste of time and energy.
I watched the Simpsons’ Movie and found it to be boring and tedious. I was a pantomime. In addition – and this is what disappointed me the most – was that it looked so ugly! Like an internet Flash animation. … euuw!
