Fluffy Links Sept 11th 2006

Monday, September 11th, 2006

Via Euan Semple is news that Jeffrey Archer has a blog.

I gave three lectures while on board – one entitled ‘How to write a bestseller’, another on ‘Can the Conservative Party win the next election’ and the final one on prison, ‘What’s a middle-class boy like me doing in a place like this?’ No prizes for guessing which one was the most packed with the audience standing in the aisles

How to produce your own videos.

Capacitor necklace. Wonder what the Elec Engineers think?

5 ways to make your lecture notes more readable.

Glow in the dark bubblebath. For when you can’t swim in the Irish sea.

Wayne Coyne from the Flaming Lips gives a great commencement speech to a school from his area. The jellyfish story is great.

Cat in a bottle. Still doesn’t beat Bonsai Kitten.

More sponsorship requests: “Blogging the Election” Conference

Sunday, September 10th, 2006

Unlike the my previous chauffeur request, this is genuine. We’ll be announcing a venue and the first speaker for the upcoming “Blogging the Election” conference. It’s a good location and a very good speaker but in order to get the speaker and the venue we need a good bit of money. Catering is another expense are other odds and ends. For this reason Cian outlines what sponsorship “Blogging the Election” needs. Our current estimate is €4500 and so we have 9 €500 slots to be sponsored but a sponsor can sponsor more if they like.

You can contact me directly about sponsorship or email conference@irishelection.com.

Donations wanted for a chauffeur fund for Rick O’Shea

Sunday, September 10th, 2006

Rick had a seizure on Thursday but thank God he’s ok. He’s just blogged about his experiences and adds some humour into it.

with the paramedics reassuring me I was fine and taking me all of the 500 yards across the road to St Michael’s Hospital to give me the full once and twice over. They even turned on the siren, which always gives it a sense of occasion for me.

He’s off the road for a year though. Which sucks.

Once again full praise for Blacknight

Sunday, September 10th, 2006

Just checking my stats on the Blacknight control panel and the traffic I’m getting is obscene. The getting laid with Google post saw this site transfer 74 gigs of data in the last week of July. In August even after the hype died away it still pushed out 22 gigs of data. This month is no exception with the amount of visits I’m getting. 8000 alone today. Surely not all from the Tribune story? Still, through it all both Michele and Paul have been really really helpful. So cheers guys. With blogger acting so shit lately maybe it’s time to move to a blog hosting package from Blacknight?

Michele did not ask me to write this, everyone knows I’m pissy if asked to pimp something.

Experimental sponsored posts on Mulley.net. (Also available as podcasts)

Sunday, September 10th, 2006

As a way of generating a little revenue for this site, I’ve decided to have some sponsored blog posts on Mulley.net for a working week. There’ll be one new sponsored post each day for 5 days. I get quite a lot of mail from crowds around the world asking to sponsor this site but I worked out a deal where there’ll be a blog post containing an audio sponsorship once per day. The sponsorship can be played directly on the post or you can subscribe to a podcast of it. The text to the audio of the sponsorship will be posted on the blog post too. I think the sponsors are just as excited to try this new medium as I am. These will be as non-intrusive as possible and will not be set to auto-play when the post is viewed.

Feedback on these during the week would be appreciated. The first post will be released around midday tomorrow.

Friday Fish Special

Sunday, September 10th, 2006

Friday Fish My company isn’t rich enough to compete with the summer party Colm’s company had but they really look after us with the great chef we have. On Friday we had the following for lunch: Salmon, prawns & crab thai style fishcakes served with crispy leaves tossed in oriental dressing and fresh ginger fried pak choi. I’m really surprised Google hasn’t tried to poach him. Just thought I’d share that with you.

Recommendation wanted: Scanners with document feeder

Sunday, September 10th, 2006

I have about 2000 pages of documentation from FOI requests and I want to scan these in and put them online. Can anyone recommend a scanner that will allow me to do this? Something that won’t cost me a fortune. If anyone in the Cork area wants to loan me theirs I’d be very appreciative. 🙂

Some interesting UCC short evening courses

Sunday, September 10th, 2006

UCCThe Centre for Adult Continuing Education in UCC has some really interesting short courses starting in October.

There are also more courses starting in January.

I don’t know what my timetable for college is going to be like but I’d really like to go to some of them such as:

Add me to your del.icio.us network

Saturday, September 9th, 2006

Just stuck a del.icio.us button thingy on the sidebar so you can add me to your del.icio.us network.

del.icio.us is dead handy for me. I use it for all my bookmarks instead of my browser.
