He’s just a wee baby. Go over to his site with streamers and those things that make annoying whistling sounds.

Happy Birthday Steven
Saturday, June 17th, 2006UCC gives blogs to all students
Friday, June 16th, 2006UCC Student’s Union Communications Officer Kris Mcelhinney left a comment on my blog recently and mentioned that UCC now has blogs for any student that wants one. The new student email system has a blog option so that when you log in to your mail you can enable your blog.
With something like 15,000 students, that’s a potentially very large influx come October to the Irish Blog O’Sphere. Can IrishBlogs.ie and Planet.Journals.ie handle it?
University College Cork (University of the year again) has a strong tradition of web innovation. It was the first Irish College to have a website, which was also 9th in the world and also as I mentioned before UCC Interactive TV has audio and video podcasts of lectures and special events.
I asked Kris would there be any censorship of these blogs if they are critical of UCC or any faculties, he responded:
just as a student must follow rules with regard the sending emails from their student account it is expected that they will follow the same rules of good practise in their use of these new facilities.
I’d love to see every university encourage blogging and even give classes on it. It’s a very good way of learning how to communicate and improve your writing skills and with universities meant to be hotbeds of research and new thinking it might be a great way of sharing knowledge with a worldwide audience.
Should Cork people be insulted?

Someone in the MS ad agency has a clue. Clever ad appealing to the Battlestar Galactica geeks.
Deadwood is coming back tonight. Last fucking season though. The Salon review rocks.
National Blogging Day and a big party/BBQ
Sunday, June 11th, 2006Ken McGuire suggests we have a National Blogging Day in August.
And on this day, everyone – everyone – writes a piece reflecting on their previous year’s blogging – how they’ve developed themselves, made articles, favourite snippets from the year, what they enjoy about blogging etc. Nice way to chronicle the changing face of the Irish blogging community.
How about we celebrate the day by having a party/BBQ/beerathon that weekend?
Bon Chance Scoble
Sunday, June 11th, 2006So Scoble is leaving Microsoft. I think MS will be weaker as a result. Actually Scoble was probably too big for Microsoft, we couldn’t see so many other great evangelists or bloggers MS has because of the gravitational pull of Scoble, well at least I hope that’s the reason I can only name a few other stateside MS bloggers and only then because I knew their blogs before they joined MS.
Of course locally we have Rob Burke and Clare Dillon and they can be found on IrishBlogs.ie. MS is lucky to have those two as they’re doing a great job of promoting the Developer and Platform Group at Microsoft Ireland. Yet that’s just one group amongst many in MS. It might be good if Microsoft decided to show off some of their other great bloggers in Ireland and globally. Rob also needs to get his missus to blog about her lovely and very affordable mosaics. Model it on EnglishCut!
Bernie has good coverage of the Scoble news. A crowd called Beet.tv broke the story. Right now when you google beet.tv you get:
Beet.tv Results 1 – 10 of about 616 for beet.tv. (0.32 seconds)
I bet that’ll grow in the next week or so.
So it seems Robert is off to Podtech.net. When you google for them you get:
podtech Results 1 – 10 of about 151,000 for podtech. (0.05 seconds)
That’s a lot of hits, well it seems to be until you see how many you get when you google for scoble:
scoble Results 1 – 10 of about 12,200,000 for scoble. (0.26 seconds)
I look forward to seeing how far Podtech will go with Scoble on their team.
