Mangorithm Definition:
An algorithm that unintentionally or intentionally reproduces or amplifies male dominance, patriarchal assumptions and existing gender inequalities because the people, data, decisions and institutions shaping it reflect those same power structures. Its bias can emerge from who designs it, whose experiences are represented in its training data, whose behaviour is rewarded and whose perspectives are treated as the default. This sadly would nearly be all algorithms.
You don’t even need to programme the patriarchy into an algorithm when it’s already embedded in the data, the designers and the decisions.
